Hello and welcome to Altered,
Today I’d like to offer some encouragement to the budding entrepreneur or graphic designer.
The present recession has no doubt taken it’s toll on: designers marketers and salesmen of which I happen to be all three.
Things seam to be going to hell in a hand basket. The markets are down, unemployment is on the rise. I believe that despite all these pitfalls the worst damage has been dealt to our morale.
If you watch the news too much you’ll feel just like crawling in a hole and dying.
There are people that are crushed by trouble and others who find a way to turn it around and use the trouble as motivation.
I don’t think there is anyway we can simply spend our way out of this recession. Spending more than we make is one of the things that made us vulnerable to the trouble we are now in.
I’m not happy about what has been done by corrupt people in our Government the Banking Institutions and the National Reserve.
I think working hard and going the extra mile will get us through these issues we are facing.
In my case I’m beating the streets and cracking down on any laziness on my part. Here is my strategy for this coming year.
Educate – Teach my self two new code language technologies.
Take it to the streets – Distribute 3000 Club Card fliers to local businesses in my area face to face.
Build helpful content on my blogs – Add articles that educate and inspire.
Crack down – I write out a list of tasks for myself every night for the next day. I establish which projects are highest priority and when I need to get them done. I may not get everything on my list done but I get a lot more than if I don’t write a list.
We have to innovate new marketing strategies for the business world who is waking up to the fact that interruption based marketing performance is starting to wane.
Though we are indeed going through a nasty recession we as designers can get through this if we can: hunker down, diversify our knowledge, and work hard. We can and must climb out of the foxholes in our mind and get out there!
