Where should I place road signs?
High traffic areas are the best location for your road signs. Here is a check list of some of the best location types.
___ Four way stops
___ Busy intersection
___ Interstate exits
___ Traffic lights
___ Gas station exits
___ Convenient stores
These are all good sign placement locations but feel free to experiment with a small portion of your signs to find great local hot spots of traffic.
What Kind of Messages Are Effective?
People see exactly what they look for , so create a message that answers the question that is in the reader’s mind. Keep the message short and simple. Tell the reader what you do, not who you are (they don’t care who you are). Example: “Are you looking for a Web Designer? Creative Web Designer Available, Reasonable Rates Call #(772)224-9252. This type of message will attract callers because you are answering their questions, telling them what you do, and letting them know how to reach you. Signs can be used in all markets, such as politics, lawn maintenance, real estate, painters, handymen, roofers, carpet cleaners, etc. There’s no reason why they won’t work in your business.
Is it legal in my city to put out road signs?
Some cities have very strict guidelines about using road signs, while others are quite the opposite. Be sure to check with your local sign enforcement agency before using road side signs, and comply with their restrictions. They do allocate hefty fines for those not abiding. Use proper etiquette when campaigning with road side signs by not placing signs in anyone’s yard, private property, or in an area that would obstruct normal traffic.
What size road sign should I market?
Yard Signs are made of corrugated plastic. 18″ x 24″ is the most common size for advertising with road side signs. It’s the easiest to read as traffic is going by at 30 – 50 MPH. They can also be seen from a distance. 12″ x 18″ signs are less noticeable and should be used in areas where a complete stop is required. You can expect 18″ x 24″ signs to last 3 days to a week, and get tons more exposure in that amount of time versus running a newspaper ad.
Road side signs work 24 hours a day for you. They do not fall into any one “category” like newspaper ads do, so the readers will see your sign, even if they aren’t looking for it.
No matter what, go for the gold and work hard at marketing and it will pay off. Remember you don’t have to out run the bear, you just have to out run the guy next to you.
